Born On The Night Of The Living Dead

Growing up with Talking Apes, Killer Sharks, and Flesh-Eating Zombies

by David Young

Born on the Night of the Living Dead is the story of movies I watched from the time I figured out what the heck a movie even was ‘til the time when I was around sixteen years old. It’s all here, folks. From the moment of my first pants-crapping terror watching the little apple head people crawl out of Kim Darby’s chimney in "Don’t be Afraid of the Dark" to the day a Great White showed me how much fun being scared at the movies could be.

From the time I first heard the words “A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…” to the afternoon when a K-Mart Toy Department sales woman told me that they didn't make Star Wars action figures as big as the Mego superheroes, so get used to it.

From the second my heart skipped a beat at the sight of Diane Lane in a movie called "Ladies and Gentlemen… The Fabulous Stains" to the day I made the biggest decision of my life all because of Rebecca DeMornay in "Risky Business."

It’s also a story about my family, the 70’s, Book and Records, my pal George C. Scott, school dances, baby alligators, The Electric Moog Orchestra, and a whole bunch of other stuff, so what the heck are you waiting for?

All aboard!
